All humans have a brain. All humans have a mind. Where are these matters separated? What distinct the differences between the two? Is there a difference between a brain and a mind? Or are they one-in-the-same as eating and tasting food. According to the history of psychology the distinction of the mind and brain became common knowledge around the late 1800’s century. Before then when society related to mental illness or defective behavior, it was associated with a spiritual possession or demonic influence. The sense of feeling is what connected the spiritual realms with the physical reality. Our awareness of this bond developed our mental strength, plus conscious insight. Wisdom (or Biblical knowledge) was seen as a gift from God.
“The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge, but fools despise wisdom and instruction.”- Proverbs 1:7
Wisdom is still a gift from God. Nevertheless, I question why one uses one’s brain or why one is aware of their mind. I consider the brain the physical part of our anatomy causing us to connect with our muscles & nervous system. It gives our body the ability to keep our hearts beating, blood flowing and air coming through our lungs. All our physical elements are controlled and monitored by our brain. However, our minds give us a window to our soul and connect our insight & vision to the eyes of our hearts. The concept works much as the ability to hear within one’s skills to listen. What we know as our mind and our brain is the doorway to open our conscience and intimacy among the human race. One would know that it would be bad to feed another human being to a wild animal such as a tiger on purpose. Nevertheless, one then becomes aware of the level of human deficiency to actually do it. A healthy way of thinking is to know that the Holocaust is terribly wrong. Yet, our awareness of society and morality of racism in America; thus, slavery is not so many generations old in history. Its one thing to see right and wrong, its another thing to understand sin.
When Jesus walked this Earth, He understood, forgave, healed and removed sin.
“Now some teachers of the law were sitting there, thinking to themselves, ‘Why does this fellow talk like that? He’s blaspheming! Who can forgive sin but God alone?’ Immediately Jesus knew in his spirit that this was what they were thinking in their hearts, and he said to them. ’Why are you thinking these things? Which is easier: to say to this paralyzed man. ‘Your sins are forgiven’ or to say. ‘Get up, take your mat and walk’? But I want you to know that the Son of Man has authority on earth to forgive sins. ‘So he said to the man. ‘I tell you get up, take your mat and go home.’ He got up. Took his mat and walked out in full view of them all. This amazed everyone and they praised God, saying ‘We have never seen anything like this!’” – Mark 2:6- 12
Somehow, Jesus connected the spiritual, demonic, blockage of sin to the spiritual chemistry and healing of eternal life. People’s physical dilemma was healed by His words. Jesus’ conscience awareness combined the morality function of the brain to the fleshless of the mind’s reality. Jesus was able to connect the spiritual & the physical in real time. There is harmony between the distinction of the mind & the brain as real the color blue in the sky and the color of the surface of the ocean. Our feelings testify to this reality. Humanity is young within their intimacy within the human race. Our vision of moral reasoning is keen and naïve. We need the grace of our God to reveal daylight upon our eyes to see.
