Faith comes from experience. It is not enough to grow and apply correct knowledge to proper doctrine. Although this aspect of learning and understanding is key and important to obtain salvation. The scriptures say faith comes by hearing and hearing the Word of God.
“Consequently, faith comes from hearing the message, and the message is heard through the word about Christ.” – Roman 10:17
We see through our lives that this learning is as an assessment of knowledge & experience; thus, putting scriptures and doctrine to practice. This brings in the principle of the time to the element of spirituality. Jesus said he who put his word into practice is a wise builder who builds his house on rock (the rock is the Word of God). The elements of the weather crashes upon the house, nevertheless, the house remains standing because it is based on a solid foundation.
“Why do you call me ‘Lord, Lord’, and do not do what I say? As for everyone who comes to me and hears my words and puts them into practice, I will show you what they are like. They are like a man building a house, who dug, down deep and laid the foundation on rock. When a flood came, the torrent struck that house but could not shake it, because it was well built. But the one who hears my words and does not put them into practice is like a man who built a house on the ground without a foundation. The moment the torrent struck that house, it collapsed, and its destruction was complete.”- Luke 6:46-49
The Greek word in the Bible, “ginosko” means “to know” based on experience. This is the kind of knowing before faith is established. Examples: to know a wife, to become familiar with a fragrance or a scent, or a song, or a memory, to become awake, to recognize or to recall as knowledge. This awareness of knowledge was used as a example when two disciples saw Jesus for the first time after His resurrection. They knew Him but they did not recognize Him at first, or as the first born of the dead. Yet, The Word of God burned in their hearts.
“Now that same day two of them were going to a village called Emmaus, about seven miles from Jerusalem. They were talking with each other about everything that had happened. As they talked and discussed these things with each other, Jesus himself came up and walked along with them; but they were kept from recognizing Him. He asked them. ‘What are you discussing together as you walk along?
They stood still, their faces downcast, one of them, named Cleopas, asked Him, ‘Are you the only one visiting Jerusalem who does not know the things that have happened there in these days?’
‘What things?’ he asked
‘About Jesus of Nazareth’, ‘the replied. He was a prophet, powerful in word and deed before God and all the people. The chief priest and our rulers handed Him over to be sentence to death, and they crucified Him; but we had hoped that he was the one who was going to redeem Israel. And what is more it is the third day since all this took place. In addition, some of our women amazed us. They came and told us that they had seen a vision of angels, who said He was alive. Then some of our companions went to the tomb and found it just as the women had said, they did not see Jesus.’
He said to them, ‘How foolish you are, and how slow to believe all that the prophets have spoken! Did not the Messiah have to suffer these things and then enter his glory? And beginning with Moses and all the Prophets, He explained to them what was said in all Scriptures concerning himself.
As they approached the village to which they were going, Jesus continued as if He were going farther. But they urged him strongly, ‘Stay with us, for it is nearly evening the day is almost over. So, He went in to stay with them
When He was at the table with them, He took bread, gave thanks, broke it and began to give it to them. Then their eyes were opened, and they recognized Him, and He disappeared from their sight. They asked each other. Were not our hearts burning within us while he talked with us on the road and opened the Scriptures to us?- Luke 34: 13- 32
Job knew of God and had such relationship with God, an awareness and experience with God; before his faith came to knowledge and he knew the creator of the universe. (READ: Job 19:23- 27) It says faith is the evidence of what is not yet seen and hope for.
(SPIRITUAL REFLECTION: “Now faith is confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see”- Hebrew 11:1
As we grow through our journey here on Earth, we come to the awareness of knowing what we’ve hope for as reality. This transition of beliefs is as ignited fire within the spiritual realms. It is also premature beliefs before it is truly developed (spiritual milk) It is for this reason my denomination of community church (my home congregation) does not belief in infant baptism. The child does not have an awareness of experience knowledge of good and evil. The child needs to develop into and understanding of a conscience.
(SPIRITUAL RERFLRCTION: “For we know in part, and we prophesy in part, but when completeness comes, what is in part disappears. When I was a child, I talked like a child. I thought like a child. I reasoned like a child. When I became a man, I put the way of a childhood behind me. For now, we see only a reflection as in a mirror, then we shall see face to face. Now I know in part then I shall know fully even as I am fully known.” – I Corinthians 13: 9-11
We see this reasoning of war within the spiritual battle of eternal salvation and condemnation.
