RIGHTEOUSNESS 101

“Why is my language not clear to you? Because you are unable to hear what I say. You belong to your father, the devil, and you want to carry out your father’s desires. He was a murderer from the beginning, not holding to the truth in him. When he lies, he speaks his native language, for he is a liar and the father of lies. Yet because I tell the truth, you do not believe me?                                                                                                   - John 8:43-45
How can one lie if they believe what they are saying is true? One cannot lie if their conscience is clear, however is it possible to be out of reality with a clear conscience? You believe you are right and what you’re saying is true, but in reality, you are wrong. You may believe 2+2=5. You would not be committing a sin. You may never get the correct change at a corner store or be able to balance a check book but you’re not in sin. Something may be totally wrong, yet that does not make it illegal.
The term “apologetic” which means for a person to establish a firm, solid defense based on what they believe to be true. This word has hit mainstream within today’s generation among the Christian sect. It originates from the Greek word “apologia” used back in the days of Sacrates. This culture, generation and backgrounds and kindred’s background give a basis of how one views the world. People could live within a 20-mile radius and have two totally different worldviews.
“From one man he made all the nations, that they should in habit the whole earth; and he marked out their appointed times in history and the boundaries of their land. God did this so that they would seek him and perhaps reach out for him and find him, though he is not far from any one of us”                                                                                        - Acts 17:26-27
I remember during my younger days before I became a disciple hearing people give me advice on how to do business and where to place my money. I remember hearing statements from associates like- “Yes. You are my friend, but I don’t know if it is safe to tell you if I robbed a bank.” In other words - I’m uncertain if you got my back. Or, to say it precisely -how committed into this relationship are you? I specifically remember a conversation I had with this older financial expert who was trying to invest a percentage of my income into a retirement plan. He addressed me with the question “I did not ask rather it was right, I asked rather it is legal?” There is a precedence within the mindset of our culture that declares if something is right or wrong (or good and bad) is separate from what the law backs up as to what is legal.
The act of crucifixion being “out-of-date” the cross; this concept is not far from human nature. Rather you come from the Baby Boomer’s generation, or you are a Millennium dictates the idea that knowing a business like “Blockbusters” with a slogan “Be Kind Rewind” may be far from your reality. And this is simply a window of time of 50 years. We know of human’s act towards destruction of history by burning books. The moral of taking Black History out of the culture by not teaching its proper edict in schools leaves a hole in our conscience. Our natural sinful nature returns to us as a fool returning to his/her folly and a dog recalls the location of where he buried his bone, (SPIRITUAL REFLECVTION: Proverbs 26:11).
In the Bible the Greek word “chamad” is used for the meaning “desire” We are talking about an obsessive, passionate desire, thus; the morality of addiction or finding an idol God. The mentality for a more self-discipline emotion which is purer in definition is the Greek word “chaphets” which is also a word in the Bible. This word refers to the concept of being pleased or appreciative of beauty. This reflects a goal for humanity. This is something the Devil defiled with his jealousy and envy when he glazed upon the beauty of the Holy Spirit. This “epithumia” also a Greek word found in the Bible means an intense focus or desire. We need to grow within this nature as human being upon the Word of God. This will help us grasp the consciousness to see and know the truth. We first need to know the truth before we can be condemn for not embracing it.
